Mimi is 12 years old and lived with her siblings and parents in the refugee camp in Bangladesh. Not long ago she got her first period. Her mother was worried that Mimi is no longer safe from being assaulted in the camp. Many girls of her age are being kidnapped and forced into marriages with older men. Mimi’s aunt lives in Malaysia. There, Rohingya have a chance of having some more safety and security with a UN card.
All that Mimi wants is just a normal life and a good education. With this hope for a better life her mom borrowed a lot of money to send her to Malaysia and with this hope, Mimi went. The more than 600 miles journey, partly by boat, partly overland, was very dangerous. However, after three weeks she finally arrived safely at her aunt’s place.
- Pray for Rohingya parents who face the same dilemma as Mimi’s mum
- Pray for the many girls to stay safe from assault and abuse, both within the refugee camp and elsewhere.
- Pray that the Rohingya get refugee status in Bangladesh too, so that they can receive good education.
- Pray for the many Rohingya in Malaysia who try to build up a better life there.
