A small candle dimly lights the room as a young boy sits in the corner with his face illuminated by the light of his cell phone, the only other source of light. This is Abdulla. This small bamboo room, part of an IDP camp block, has been his home for the past 7 years since his home was burned down in the riots. Abdulla spends his days working hard at school, although he is several grades behind, and taking care of his sickly mother and younger siblings. His phone is his escape, his window to the outside world. This comes with great danger, the conten available to you unsheltered young people can be devastating, but there are also great possibilities.
Bing! Abdulla messages his Christian friend. Although they only live a few hours away, they might as well be worlds apart because of travel restrictions. For over a year now these two have been messaging, sending photos, and calling each other on a regular basis. Recently his Christian friend prayed in the name of Isa (Jesus) for Abdulla to do well on his end-of-year examinations, and he passed! Abdulla attributed this all to his friend’s prayer. ‘I really like Hazorot Isa’ he would message almost daily, ‘Please send me some book about Isa.’ By God’s Grace, Abdulla’s friend was able to send him a few Bible story apps, and for the past few weeks he has been spending his evenings reading through the stories of God’s salvation. God is working in his heart… “I prayed for my sick mother in Isa’s name and her fever left her! Isa has power.”
“..he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.” -Acts 17: 26-27
- Pray for Abdulla’s heart to continue to be open to the Good News of Jesus.
- Pray for creativity and wisdom as people around the world seek to use technology to minister to Rohingya people in restricted access areas.
- Pray for protection of Rohingya people from harm that can come through unsupervised access to the internet.
